The SMART Initiative Is Officially On Track for the Ballot!

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We did it! Thanks to your incredible hard work and dedication, we have achieved a major, game-changing milestone in our campaign to secure the future of the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) system.

We have successfully submitted 71,851 signatures to qualify the SMART Initiative for the ballot, a whole 3 months prior to our 180 day deadline!

This accomplishment is a massive victory for our community. We needed a minimum of 48,809 valid signatures, and the fact that we collected over 71,000 shows the overwhelming support for renewing SMART. This would not have been possible without every single volunteer, signature gatherer, and supporter like you.

🔎 What Happens Next?

The Registrars of Voters in Sonoma and Marin Counties are now in the process of verifying the signatures. Our early submission means we can get this measure qualified sooner and pivot immediately to the next phase of the campaign: persuasion and turnout for the 2026 election.

This is a critical moment. Now that the hard work of gathering signatures is done, we need to ensure that every voter understands that this is not a new tax, but an extension of the existing, successful sales tax that keeps our trains running, reduces traffic congestion on 101, and builds the multi-use pathway.

Your support is needed now more than ever to win the vote.

💪 Our Next Goal: Fueling the Campaign to Victory

We have moved from collecting signatures to preparing for a robust persuasion and Get Out The Vote (GOTV) effort. Every dollar you donate ensures we have the resources to:

  • Educate Voters: Fund mailers, digital ads, and outreach to ensure every voter knows they are voting to renew an existing tax, not raise a new one.

  • Mobilize Supporters: Recruit and train volunteers to canvass and talk to voters in the final weeks before the election.

  • Keep SMART Strong: Ensure the long-term future of our clean, reliable rail service and multi-use path.

Chip in a few dollars today to help us win in 2026 and keep SMART on track.
